Ocean Waves

By  |

Challenge Day!  Today’s theme is “oceanic”.  I thought about doing all sorts of more literal designs, but this one just came to me and I went with it.

It’s not a gradient as the layers are intentionally not blended together, but it does have the gradual transition of one color to the next.

I started with a base of Barielle Cream ‘n Sugar just to make my naked nail bed look creamy and even.  After that I added a wavy layer of Picture Polish Whimsy (a personal favorite in my collection that I know I don’t wear enough).  Second blue wave is China Glaze Secret Peri-Wink-Le (another favorite that I should really pull out of my stash more frequently.)  The tips are a wave of Ulta Joined at the Hippo.

There’s something organic about the ragged waves that really makes me happy.  It’s funny how making them look random is so tedious and requires actual attention.  I struggled with making the waves even, but I think they turned out even enough.

I don’t know about you, but anything that reminds me of the ocean also reminds me that I don’t go on vacation often enough. I think Hubbs and I need to figure out a trip sooner rather than later.  My toes need to find some sand and my hand needs to find a cold, tropical drink!

Have you tried color waves?  I’d love to see them if you have!
